Inauguration of Manuel Leão Metro Station

The extension of the Yellow Line between Santo Ovídio and Vila d’Este, in Vila Nova de Gaia, was inaugurated on June 28th, and featured a small ceremony at the new Manuel Leão metro station. This extension of the Yellow Line includes three new stations: Manuel Leão, Hospital Santos Silva, and Vila d’Este, symbolizing the consolidation and investment that have been made in Vila Nova de Gaia. The Manuel Leão station is just a 5-minute walk from Quinta de Cravel and allows residents to reach the Trindade station in 20 minutes, reinforcing the centrality of Quinta de Cravel in the city of Gaia and the Porto district. For this new section, a frequency of passage is planned every eight minutes during peak hours and every ten minutes for the rest of the day.

The station stands out for its modern architecture and spacious areas, also featuring a small amphitheater outside, contributing to the redevelopment of the surrounding urban area. The name of this station is a tribute to Father Manuel Leão, whose dedication and passion for education were constants throughout his life. His legacy includes the creation of the Gaia Vocational School and the Polytechnic Higher Institute.

In the future, the current Santo Ovídio station on the Yellow Line will have pedestrian access to the future Ruby Line station, allowing a direct connection to Casa da Música and providing Quinta de Cravel with a new centrality.
